The 15 - Point Website Checkup to Ensure Internet Success

By Dennis Francis

Y N

_ _1. Does your website follow a logical progression and is it user friendly? Western readers read websites the way they read magazines - left to right, top to bottom. They really like uncluttered copy with paragraphs that are more than 5 to 6 line deep.

_ _2. Is your website readable at 800x660, 1024x768, and at higher resolutions? Because there are so many choices in monitor sizes and resolutions your site should be flexible enough to accommodate a variety of sizes.

_ _ 3. How quickly do your web pages load? Are your images optimized?

The majority of Internet surfers in the U.S. still use a 56K modem. Your website should load at a comfortable speed for impatient surfers to stay for the completed page. A great way to do it is to load really compelling copy quickly while the images load.

_ _4. Is your content up-to-date and relevant to your audience?

If you created your website five years ago and haven't updated the content on your site I'd say you are in need of an overhaul. The idea is to get them coming back for more.

_ _5. Do you have a complete biography on your practice or business?

Your biography should read as a public relations piece. The aim of the copy is to give you credibility. Don't make it into a resume, give it a journalistic feel.

_ _6. Is your domain name relevant to your search terms as well as you business profile? Your domain name should describe your company, product or services.

_ _7. Have you done a search for your appropriate headings lately? Routinely "Google" your headings, and keywords. Do the same at Yahoo, MSN and other sites.

_ _8. Do you have an email marketing program on your website?

The average prospect now makes a decision on the 7th to 12th visit. You need to give them a reason to come back.

_ _9. Are you using Pay Per Click advertising? Are your search criteria and keywords appropriate? Be careful of your choice of keywords and watch your frequency. Check for competitive keywords.

_ _10. Do you sell products on-line? Are you set up to handle e-checks, credit cards and Paypal? Look for new ways to include more shoppers by increasing the convenience factor.

_ _11. Do you have an on-line newsletter subscription program?

Newsletters offer a great way to stay in touch with your market without beating them over the head.

_ _12. Do you send out notices and birthday cards to patients by email?

The number one reason for patient attrition is neglect. The studies show that patients and prospective patients will return to see you if they are reminded of your interest in them as people.

_ _13. Are you able to setup appointments on-line? This is a great convenience for the growing number of online consumers.

_ _14. Do you have multimedia education on your site for people who want to know more about chiropractic? This will bring interested patients and prospective patients back to your website.

_ _15. Do you have back links to your website? Links to your website from other relevant websites increase your ranking in the search engines.

If you weren't able to get a "Yes" 50% of the time, give me a call or email me for a free evaluation. I will see if we can get your site up to speed at a reasonable return on your investment.

How Do I Fix Errors on My PC?

By Julian Bates

In this day of almost total dependence upon the communication, information and entertainment provided by the personal computer, to be faced with an unexpected problem is the stuff nightmares are made of. That feeling of helplessness, fear, and "what if I can't get it running again?" is bone chilling. But, there are some simple steps you can take to fix some of the common errors, which arise on the best of days.

Prequel: Perform regular backups, updates and other maintenance chores

When you're sitting in front of a computer with a dark screen is not the time to decide you should have backed up that last major project on the hard drive. In addition to that hint, there are some other housekeeping chores that should be done, whether we program the computer to take care of them or perform them manually.

Assess the problem

If it's a symptom you've seen before, it's not necessary the same problem. For example, if the monitor screen suddenly goes dark, it may not be the power connection on your computer; it may be a breaker switch at your main household fuse box. Don't try to fix a problem if you're not sure what the problem is. It is a good idea however, to check all plugs, cords and power connectors. Cords get loosened, ports get dusty, and sometimes the power strip is defective or needs to be reset. Check connections at both ends, the computer end and the power end. Also if there is an error message displayed, write down any information that appears in the pop-up box.

Reboot

Sometimes that's all it takes to get the computer operating smoothing again. The computer rereads the necessary files, steps and follows them in the correct order and voila! You're back in business. Later in the process, you may need to reboot manually to follow step-by-step instructions it provides

Read the instructions

Very good and detailed information about troubleshooting procedures is available in at least 2 places: You can read the instruction manual or user's guide that came with the computer. In addition, there is a trouble-shooting guide built into the computer itself that will walk you through most problems in a 'flow chart' sort of way. At each step, you tell the computer if you need to proceed to the next step of troubleshooting.

These simple procedures won't fix all the errors on your PC, but you'd be surprised how many times a big-appearing computer error turns out to be something almost insignificant. The next time you are faced with a PC error, don't press that button to call the system's guy. Just try and fix it yourself. These things are definitely easier than what they look like. It doesn't take a pro to fix a tiny error. You will be amazed to see your system up and running again in no time!

What is Factoring? Working Capital Without a Credit Check!

By Cassandra Ingraham

Understanding Invoice Factoring and how it works can change the path of your small Business. Factoring has been practiced for centuries. The Romans sold promissory notes at a discount as did the Phoenicians. The word "factor" comes from Latin, the language of Rome. It means "to do" or "to make." The Pilgrim's journeys to America were financed by advances from a Factor who provided the funds to pay for the journey. The Pilgrims repaid the money with earnings from America. Factoring to this day is an extremely common business practice in Europe whereas many American business men have never heard of it. This year alone thousands of businesses will Factor billions of dollars in accounts receivable, and they are doing it for profit, growth, and in some cases, their very survival.

Factoring is the selling of your accounts receivable for cash versus waiting 30-60 or 90 days to be paid by your customer.

Q: What Is A Factoring Company?

A: A commercial finance company that specializes in the purchase of invoices or accounts receivable for cash.

Q: How do I find a Factoring Company?

A: You could "Google" the word "factoring", however you may not know what companies are best for you. You could ask you Banker, chances are he/she has only one company to refer you to OR you can contact a Receivable Broker or an Invoice Line of Credit Broker or a Cash Flow Consultant. A good (opinion) Broker will not charge you Fees. The Lenders pays the Broker's fees and most Lenders want a Broker to work only with their company. This is great
if their company can provide what each client needs. Many Factoring companies do not factor construction or medical
invoices. Other Factoring companies require long-term contract. Some Factoring companies can factor up to $10 Million per invoice, a few can factor the large Government Contracts up to $100 Million and still others won't factor anything less then $10,000. One Factoring Company does not fit all Businesses. Clients need a choice, unless of course, the choices are few because of the type of Factoring needed. A good Broker will provide more then one introduction to a Licensed Financial Institution who meet strict standards for providing Accounts Receivable Funding for Government, State, City, County and Business Invoices. A really good Broker will stay with you mentally and emotionally during your entire transaction.

Q: How does factoring differ from bank funding?

A: Factoring companies make decisions based on the credit-worthiness of your customers; a bank makes credit decisions based on your company's financial history, cash flow and collateral. Because factoring is not a loan, no liability appears on your balance sheet. Most importantly, Factoring companies make funding decisions in days or hours-while banks generally take weeks or even months.

Q: Why would a company sell accounts receivable?

A: Companies with recurring cash-flow problems often can't afford to wait 30, 60 or even 90 days for invoice payment. They need cash to meet immediate financial demands of their business. Factoring provides this cash by funding the purchase of accounts receivable, often within 24 hours after invoices are created.

Q: What is the major benefit of factoring?

A: You receive immediate cash. Also-perhaps most importantly-Decision to finance your company is based on your
customers' credit-worthiness instead of your balance sheet. If you can deliver the goods and services you have promised to your customers, and if your customers have good credit, you can factor your invoices no matter how limited or problematic your company's financial history.

Q: What does factoring cost?

A: Rates are based on individual and specific circumstances. Factoring rates depend on the credit-worthiness of your customers, your average invoice, average payment cycle, factoring volume and other elements. In general, they would have you believe that cost of factoring is outweighed by its significant benefits: access to immediate cash, credit analysis of your clients, collection work and accounts-receivable reporting.

Bottom Line is, factoring cost and fees are Tax Deductible. Every dime you spend in factoring can be deducted as a business expense. For this reason, factoring can be a good idea.

The Reigning Three Keyboard Layouts

By Sam Miller

If you use your computer day in and day out, then you just might be familiar with the QWERTY keyboard. Moreover, you also might have the ability to type very fast using this particular keyboard layout. However, are you aware that there are other keyboard layouts that are available? Yes, there are indeed so many layouts that you can choose from. The QWERTY keyboard layout is not the only one; it's just one of the popular ones. Including the QWERTY, there are actually three keyboard layouts that are popular. The other two include the DVORAK and the COLEMAK.

You may ask yourself right now, why is there a need to have many keyboard layouts developed? Why not just stick to the QWERTY keyboard layout? The reason behind the many available layouts is actually simple: ease of use. While you may find the QWERTY layout the most functional for you, not all computer users might share the same sentiments. This is precisely why other keyboard layouts have been developed. To determine which particular layout just might be the most functional for you, it would actually be better to look into the history of each of these layouts, so that you can make a wiser and more informed decision.

Christopher Sholes is actually the person who developed the popular QWERTY keyboard. Back in the day, the keyboard layout of mechanical typewriters was not really that efficient. At the time, the frequently used vowels and consonants that were arranged too close to each other. Consequently, the keys kept jamming against each other, rendering the original layout useless. Thus, Sholes took it upon himself to rearrange the keys so that frequently used vowels and consonants would no longer get jammed against each other. Over time, this became the standard when it comes to electronic keyboards.

Still, there is always room for improvement. Well, the perception of improvement here would depend on one's preferences. This is the reason behind Dr. August Dvorak's decision to develop the DVORAK keyboard layout. Note that the name of the layout does not pertain to the position of the keys at all; rather, it pertains to the doctor's surname itself. With the DVORAK keyboard layout, the most frequently used keys are actually located as close as possible to the home keys. This way, the stronger fingers would be used in hitting these frequent keys. Your pinky fingers, in fact, would have just four letters to operate. Combinations of letters that are considered frequent are easily typed in as well.

The Colemak keyboard layout is the modern alternative to the two layouts previously discussed. This layout was designed to incorporate ergonomics when touch-typing. With this layout, your fingers would have a more comfortable position, that you can even type 35 times more words with just the home row! What's more, the layout is very easy to learn, and typing lessons are available just about anywhere. Like the DVORAK keyboard, the stronger fingers handle most of the typing as well.

There you have it, the three keyboard layouts that are very popular amongst the many computer users of today. So, which should you choose? As mentioned above, you should go with the layout that is the most comfortable for you.

If you are interested in three keyboard layouts, check this web-site to learn more about three keys layout.

How Do You E-mail a Large Video File

By Merlin Avenell

After deciding to send a video file as an e-mail attachment, I was shocked to see the size of the file. It was 44 megabytes! Since most email attachments limit the size of the file, I knew this was not going to be so easy. I knew there were file splitters and online file storage that you could share files with someone else, but I wanted a simple way to do it that was inexpensive.

Searching the Internet for a simple solution led me to believe that other people must have the same problem. Some of the things I found on the search engines were:

  • There are 595,000 types of video files
  • Each file has unique characteristics

In order to manage these large files, the industry has come up with various methods and devices of compressing and uncompressing video files. These are a called codecs. A video codec is described as a video device or software that enables video compression and or decompression for digital video. A search for (video codec) produced over four million entries. Fortunately a codec will handle several different types of video files, but there are still many different codecs required.
Common File Names and Extensions

Flash .flv and .swf
AVI .avi
MPG .mpg
WMV .wmv
QUICKTIME ..mov

This summary is just a few of the various types of video files available and, as you can see, it would take a great deal of study to understand the different characteristics of each one.

My problem was I had this 44 megabyte-video .mpg file that I wanted to send electronically to a friend without a lot of hassle. Since I did not know what my friend had for a reader, I decided to convert the file to Flash. Most computers, that have been sold in the last few years, have Flash capabilities installed.

I found converters that would convert my .mpg file into a Flash .swf file. Most have a try before buy trial period, some are freeware. I was more than happy to pay for it if it did my job. The converted .swf file played very nice in my Flash Player. The compressed file size had decreased from 44 megabytes down to 6 megabytes.

An Internet article stated that the Flash .flv format had more compression than the .swf format. It took some more research to find a .flv converter (good thing I was not in a hurry.) The .flv format compressed the 44 megabyte file down to about 2 megabytes. This is what I was looking for. Then I discovered my Adobe Flash Player would not play the .flv file. More searching produced a stand-alone simple .flv player.

Conclusion

Several hours of research went into finding a solution to this simple problem. I hope it may help others who may encounter the same or similar problem. The converter and player that I found turned out to be free ones that I downloaded from the Internet.

If you would like to know more about the free software I used in this article , please send me an e-mail.

Trade Credit - Should You Offer 30 Day Terms to Your Clients?

What is trade credit?

One of the big differences between consumer and commercial transactions is that most, if not all, consumer transactions are paid in cash or by credit card at the time of sale. Because of this, most consumer businesses never have to worry about extending credit to a customer and can run their operations on an "all cash" basis. This allows them to focus on their core competencies because they don't have to carry slow paying Accounts Receivables and go through the expense of collecting on such accounts.

However, commercial transactions are different. Most clients ask their suppliers to deliver services immediately and then to invoice them for the work, payable 30 days later (also known as offering net-30). In effect, clients ask their suppliers provide them with "trade credit" for 30 days. Although suppliers don't like offering trade credit, most have accepted it as an industry standard and have learned how to operate and live with it. In fact, some suppliers have even mastered how to offer trade credit and use it to better position their companies with leading clients. Large creditworthy customers, such as the government or large companies, will usually demand trade credit as part of their contract negotiations. Some examples of entities that ask for 30 to 60 day payment terms are:

o Fortune 500 companies

o Large and medium sized companies

o State government agencies

o Federal government agencies

On the positive side, providing trade credit to the proper clients can be a tool that allows your company to win important contracts and position it for growth. However, providing credit is also risky and can erode the company's cash position if it is misused. Furthermore, offering trade credit to less-than-creditworthy clients can burden the company with bad debt and affect its growth prospects. Because of this, business owners must walk a fine line balancing their desires to grow their businesses with the necessities of offering credit to their customers.

Keys to providing trade credit successfully

The best way to minimize the risk of providing trade credit to a client is to perform a credit analysis on him. Although no credit analysis is 100% perfect, they allow business owners to make an informed decision on whom to issue credit to. Here are the three key points to making a credit analysis.

o Have the customer fill out a credit application

Have all your customers that want credit fill out a simple credit application. This will allow you to have all relevant facts in a single document. The application should ask for the following information:

1. Company structure

2. Banking relationships

3. Commercial references

4. Supplier references

o Check bank and supplier references

In their credit applications most clients will only list banking and commercial relationships that will position them in a favorable light - however - it is always a good idea to check on all of them anyway. Banks will only be able to confirm that the client has an account with them. Supplier references, however, may provide critical information regarding the clients' payment habits.

o Check commercial credit reports

There are a number of companies that sell commercial credit reports on businesses. As opposed to consumer credit reports that require special permissions, commercial credit reports can be obtained for any business without asking for prior permission. Reports vary in their level of detail and accuracy and can be obtained for as little as a few dollars. However, all reports will include important information to help your credit department make a decision. More detailed reports will cost a few hundred dollars. You can obtain credit reports from the following companies:

a) Dun & Bradstreet (www.dnb.com)

b) Experian (www.experian.com)

c) Credit.net (www.credit.net)

Doing a credit analysis on your clients will allow you to determine how much – if any – trade credit you can give them. Clients that do not have a favorable credit analysis should be placed on a COD (Cash On Delivery) basis, at least initially, to reduce the risk of non-payments.

The challenges of offering trade credit

One of the main drawbacks of providing trade credit is that it can create a cash flow problem for the company that offers it. Large suppliers with adequate cash cushions in the bank can easily afford to offer credit. However, small suppliers with lean bank accounts usually find that offering credit will drain their cash resources and create financial challenges. It is not uncommon for small businesses to find themselves with a cash flow gap after offering trade credit to their larger clients. This gap is created by the fact that the company's Accounts Receivable account is strong while the company's bank accounts and cash position are weak. The cash flow gap places the business at risk of missing payroll and debt payments. It also prevents it from pursuing new opportunities because they don't have the funds to buy resources or hire the necessary staff.

Bridging the "cash flow" gap

The biggest asset that most new businesses have, aside from their equipment and intangibles (e.g. employees), is their unpaid invoices or Accounts Receivable. Accounts Receivable is an asset that can be quickly converted into cash by using a financial tool called factoring. Factoring allows a business to sell the financial rights to their Accounts Receivable to a third party, called a Factor. As part of the sale, the factor immediately advances a large portion of the cash value of the unpaid invoices to the business. The business can then use this cash infusion to strengthen its cash position and meet its obligations. In the meantime, the factor, which now owns the invoices, waits to get paid by the customer. Factoring enables business owners to outsource their trade credit function to the factor and to turn their companies into the equivalent of an "all cash" business.

Invoice Factoring Group

Invoice Factoring Group and its small business factoring subsidiary can provide you with factoring and purchase order financing quotes at no cost to you. Marco Terry, its president, can be reached at 866-730-1922.

Repair a Scratched DVD the Right Way

By Raymond Remi Rheault

I have a lot of DVDs, Games, and music CD's and I've tried just about every method you can think of to get the scratches out of them. I'm a little bit lazy and I often don't bother to put my discs away. I put them in a stack on the coffee table, or toss them onto the floor beside the TV. If you're like me, then let me tell you how to repair a scratched DVD the right way.

Don't bother with the suggestions that tell you how to "fill in" the scratches. Vaseline, Furniture Polish, even Banana's; none of them work for very long. Eventually the stuff falls out of the scratches and into your DVD player.

If you want to repair a scratched DVD properly then you need to polish down the plastic buffer so that the scratches appear shallow to the laser eye. There is a thin layer of plastic that protects the data layer beneath it. The scratch in this plastic layer stops the laser eye from seeing the data clearly.

You can do this in two ways; By hand or machine. If you decide to polish your DVD by hand then you should use something very light to do so. You must also do your best to polish the DVD evenly. Personally I recommend that, if you want to repair a scratched DVD the right way, you should use an automated system. I've ruined several discs by trying the free suggestions and none from an automated machine.

Fixing scratched DVD's (CD's and Games too) can be time-consuming and sometimes causes more damage in the long run. Visit http://www.squidoo.com/repairscratchedDVD for advice on quick and easy ways to fix your scratched DVD's properly!

Metro Ethernet Or MPLS - Which is the Best Choice For Your WAN (Wide Area Network)?

By Michael Lemm

If you could choose only one technology for your wide area network ..... metro ethernet or MPLS .... which would you choose and why?

Keep in mind this is not a simple bandwidth solution question. Such as choosing "how much" .... between say DS3 bandwidth or OC3 bandwidth. This goes to the heart of designing your network infrastructure.

First off ..... you need to understand that they are not mutually exclusive. I would use Metro Ethernet as an access technology .... and a Layer-3 technology, such as MPLS, for my backbone. The appeal of MPLS is the Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities it offers.

The bottom line when choosing a WAN technology is the price compared to bandwidth and redundancy capabilities. Service providers offer various flavors of similar technologies, so unless you have the specifics, its difficult to compare.

Be conscious of the fact that when you deliver WAN services to a remote site, you will always be relying on a local exchange carrier (LEC) to deliver the "last mile" services. Most problems with WAN circuit outages at remote offices are physical layer issues at a CO that is the LEC's responsibility. This is of particular importance if you need to deliver services in a city or rural area with a dated infrastructure. In this regard appropriate vendor selection could actually prove more important than technology.

Indeed these are not necessarily mutually exclusive - there are technologies such as VPLS which is a Metro Ethernet version of MPLS. The number one factor is what do you NEED? Are all of your sites that need this connectivity within a metropolitan area and is there a single provider who is offering Ethernet access to all of these locations? If the answer is "no", then the choice is clear - MPLS, which is fairly ubiquitous these days.

MPLS is more appropriate for a diverse network with multiple connection speeds and multiple stakeholders, especially in situations where you're looking to achieve CBR. Metro Ethernet is best used in more of a "bridge" (I use the term loosely!) situation, connecting physically-separate offices where everyone is engaged in similar work or at least working for the same division. The reality, of course, is that a typical installation consists of Metro Ethernet interconnects and an MPLS backbone, but I said "choose one".

From my perspective it would have to be MPLS, purely for the flexibility of access methods and transports supported, the scalability of bandwidth demands, and of course, the QoS and traffic prioritization capabilities. Again, the use of MPLS does not preclude MEN, but MPLS would be my overarching choice if pushed.

In sum, sadly, like many computer networking questions, the answer is, "It depends."

IPv6 Training (Cisco) - the Difference Between Stateful and Stateless DHCP

Well, instead of me just jumping right into explaining the difference between Stateful and Stateless DHCP. I'm going to slow down just a bit and briefly explain DHCP first.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, this client / server protocol has been around for awhile now, and is regually implemented on IPv4 networks. IPv4 DHCP, is explained in RFC 2131 and IPv6 DHCP is explained in RFC 3315. But, in a nutshell; network adminstrators use DHCP to provide a framework that is used by networked devices (DHCP clients) to obtain various necessary parameters from DHCP Servers so the DHCP clients can operate in an Internet Protocol (IP) network. Now when it comes to DHCP for IPv6 (RFC 3315), there are two ways DHCPv6 can be implemented, either Stateful or Stateless. Stateful DHCP is centrally managed on a DHCP server(s); and the DHCP clients use Stateful DHCP to obtain an IP address(es) and other useful configuration informaiton from the DHCP server(s).

But, Stateless DHCP on the other hand; means the DHCP server(s) is not required to store any dynamic state information on the DHCP server(s) about any indivisual DHCP clients. Instead, the DHCP clients autoconfigure their own IP address(es) based on router advertisments. So, with Stateless DHCP, the DHCP clients don't use the DHCP server(s) to obtain IP address(es) information, they use the DHCP server(s) to obtain the other useful configuration informaiton (like the address(es) of DNS servers).

Currently, Cisco recommends that you use Stateless DHCP instead of Stateful DHCP when implementing and deploying IPv6 networks; because, Cisco Routers are not designed to act as Stateful DHCPv6 servers. But, if you need to implement Stateful DHCP on your IPv6 network; Cisco makes a product named Cisco Network Registar (CNR) that can help you out a lot. I invite you to visit my website were you'll find the latest information regarding Cisco IPv6 Design and Implementation Techniques.

So if you are indeed experiencing symptoms such as slow speeds, strange errors, programs not functioning, internet not functioning correctly, maybe even crashing, then it is very likely you could need a registry cleaner.

Now without completely boring you to sleep, a registry is a basically a directory which stores settings and options for Windows (your operating system, hope you already knew that). When you install or delete software, programs, spyware or adware, the registry can basically become "cluttered" with unnecessary stuff. You need to clean it out because the registry is very fragile. If you accidentally damage it, it can leave Windows completely un-bootable! Yeah, it really can.

Now the registry is where all the weird computer behavior can come from. Once you clean it, your computer could return to its normal state again. Ahh, what a relief that would be, huh? It sure was to me. I could barely stay on the computer for 5 minutes before some random "DLL32" error would start popping up. After that, my computer would just reboot. It was a mess! Cleaning the registry actually allowed me to use my computer normally. Very joyous day that was!

I know what you are thinking though! "How in the heck do I clean this thing? Sounds hard!" I do not blame you one bit! It is hard. In fact, it's hard and dangerous. Delete one wrong thing and say hello to a whole new headache. Fortunately, for us non-tech-geniuses there is software that can help. Software that can actually make the process simple, easy, and maybe help you cool your burning rage to smash the monitor in and buy a new computer.

Before we go on to messing around with the registry and installing, here are 5 easy tips for you to try:
· Try deleting unnecessary programs and files - they can cause havoc on your PC
· Try installing and running a spyware or adware eliminator. Malicious programs and files like these can cause errors and unwanted advertisements to appear on your PC.
· Try to scan for viruses and Trojans - they can take control of your computer leaving you powerless.
· Try re-installing programs and drivers - they might have undetectable viruses that you need to get rid of.
· If all else fails, even the mighty Error Smart (look below), then do a complete PC reformat. IT WILL DELETE EVERYTHING AND BRING YOUR COMPUTER TO DEFAULT SETTINGS! This can really be a hassle and should only be considered a last resort.

Did it work? If not, that is common. I would try a registry cleaning software.

Through my trials and tribulations, I have indeed found one that actually works. Trust me, through several weeks of suffering, I learned to do what is proven to work. Check the software out right over here. It is called Error Smart. Vista certified and everything. I promise you it worked for me. You even get to scan your whole system for registry errors for free! Check it out ==> Error Smart. Best wishes!

If You're Looking to Buy a Bare Bones Computer, Follow These Tips to Make Sure You Don't Get Scammed

By Joe Bobick
  1. Since there are not many parts to begin with in a bare bones computer you may be missing parts. Most people need to get one or two parts for their day to day operations due to different applications that people use them for. Do your homework first and find out exactly what you need from your bare bones system before buying.
  2. Super cheap computer deals should also throw a red flag like ones under $ 200. Carefully analyze the components of the package especially if the monitor is included, you are most likely getting a real piece of junk that won't work.
  3. Usually these type of computers use older parts. It can be a great cost saver, and some old parts still work great, if you want to upgrade it isn't going to be cheap.
  4. There is a much greater chance of having defective parts. Your motherboard could be defective, the power supply could go out in a couple of months it just goes hand in hand with "cheap computer stuff".
  5. Refurbished computer parts can be a great cost saver, but there can be problems with the updates to these computers. Often the bare bones computer is slightly updated to meet needs, but is really quite an old model, just with upgrades.
  6. Some sellers of these computers might offer a warranty. The problem with that is most of the parts are way past their manufactures warranty date, so the warranty is only guaranteed by whoever is selling the computer. It's best not to bother with this, a crooked seller can make an easy profit off of you, and leave you with a broken computer.

Well I hope that helps, just keep these things in mind before you start shopping, good luck!

How a Fingerprint Reader Works

By Donald Arson

Has this ever happened to you? You haven't been to a website in a few weeks and you just can't remember the password and now you have to go back through your email and fish it out. Or, do you do this major no no of security? Use the same username and password for every website and application you can.

It's time you tried a password storing finger print reader. Basically all consumer finger print readers work the same; you install the software and connect the fingerprint device. You then install the fingerprint reader into an available USB port, scan your finger (usually the right index finger), and now as you surf the web the software will ask you if you want to store the user id and password associated with that site.

Now the fun part, once you visit that site again in the future all you need to do is place your finger on the reader and it fills in those pesky user id and password fields for you. No need to ever forget or use the same password again.

So how does this all work?

Before we start it's good to know that this technology exists because we all have our own uniquely identifiable piece of information, our finger prints. While our forerunners did not develop this adaptation for password protection, more for gripping and holding, it's a nice side effect. Since each set of fingerprints in developed in its own way through thousands if not millions of environmental factors there is almost no chance that anyone has, has ever had or will ever had the same fingerprint as you; even if you are an identical twin.

So now the fingerprint reader just has to scan your finger and make sure all the ridges match, sounds easy right? Well, it does take a quite of bit of technology to actually make it work. First the scanner uses either an optical or capacitance scanner to take a "picture" of your finger using either light or electricity respectably.

They then "read" if what it's looking at is a ridge or valley and uses your computers processing power to compare the captured fingerprint with the fingerprints on file, from setup, in your system. They do this by using very complex algorithms and focusing in on the very fine parts of your actual fingerprint and comparing specific features called minutiae.

The scanner doesn't take your whole fingerprint into account when making a match; it just has to find some parts that match both the minutiae and the record of your print on file. Once the threshold of matches is reached voila you have access to that password protected page you wanted and you didn't even have to think about it.

Donald has an interest in the use of a fingerprint reader along with the use of a fingerprint keyboard to better protect your personal information.

Challenges of Nigeria Mobile Banking

Mobile Banking refers to provision of banking and financial services with the help of mobile telecommunication devices. The scope of offered services may include facilities to conduct bank and stock market transactions, to administer accounts and to access customized information. Also known as M-Banking in Nigeria or in some instances SMS Banking etc. It is a term used for performing balance checks, account transactions, payments and others transaction services via a mobile devices. Some mobile Banking applications in Nigeria use pre programmed configurations settings.

Mobile Banking in Nigeria started from the transaction based activities whereby Bank customers are Notified via sms when transactions are conducted on their account or via Atm. This is a one way event and only for informational purposes only. GT Bank was on of the earliest Banks to provision this service to customers.

That was the early days on Mobile Banking in Nigeria. Nigerian Banks are now deploying full fledge banking via the Mobile Phones with array of services which were only possible in the Banking Halls before. Zenith Bank, UBA , GTBank, Diamond and Intercontinental Banks are the fore runners of this innovation.

Despite the watch and see attitude that some very leading Banks are taking about Mobile Banking in Nigeria, The mobile remains the Only and most available feasible means to provide mass market alternative to Branch Banking in Nigeria. The internet has only a penetration rate of 6 percent in a population of 140 million but mobile technology is close to 50 percent penetration with prospects for growth.

Mobile devices are the most promising way to reach the masses and to create a tie-in among current customers, due to their ability to provide services anytime, anywhere, high rate of penetration and potential to grow. Deployment of 3G in coming months will also enable Banks to offer more robust Mobile Banking technologies.

Key challenges in developing a sophisticated mobile banking application are Interoperability. The single reason for is the manner in which mobile phone applications evolved over time, device manufacturers focused on particular standard and and this led to a proliferation of applications. The Financial Regulator CBN should look in this issue at this early stage so that Mobile Banking ecosystem can be robust with National standard that cuts across all Banks. Bank specific Mobile Banking platforms is akin to having each bank deploying its own ATM Technology which other bank customers cannot access.

Interoperability can also help to evolve a standard that will enable low end phones which are currently excluded, to do Mobile Banking. Some countries like India and South Africa are already using some standards like R-World and USSD.

Application distribution for Mobile Banking is another area where some Banks are facing Challenges. While some forward looking Banks are overhauling their gateways and reducing their reliance on Mobile Operators settings to enable customer's phones, Some Banks are actually asking that Customers come with regular Operator settings which in many instances might not be correct configurations settings..

Operator settings are not really meant for critical operations since most of the settings are used for entertainment based activities. Nigerian Banks that are looking at competing at this sector must look beyond operators settings which might not be correct, delayed in arrival, may not come at all and not regularly updated. Some Mobile operators do update like every three months while some do not at all. For wap and Gprs based Mobile Banking applications, mobile network coverage will also be an issue.

As part of their marketing strategies, I will expect that by now, customers do not need to visit local Branches to download Banking applications. Over-the-Air (OTA) Settings should be readily available online and some innovations can even come to play by Banks deploying Bluetooth application machines in Shopping malls and some strategic places where customers can visit and download Mobile Banking applications for free or for a fee..This will increase the addressable market of the Banks offering Mobile Banking exponentially in Nigeria.

Life Insurance Data Disc Lost By HSBC

The major bank has admitted that a computer disk containing the life insurance details of nearly 400,000 customers has been lost. The disk went missing at some stage during courier transportation between a HSBC office and the office of reinsurers Swiss Re. Usually life insurance information is transmitted between companies using a secure data connection, but on this occasion a technical fault prevented this, so a Royal Mail courier was used instead.

"HSBC would like to apologise to its life assurance customers for any concern this may cause them. Each customer will be contacted shortly and a thorough investigation into this matter is under way," the bank has said.

If HSBC is found guilty of not taking reasonable security precautions the bank could face a hefty fine from the Financial Services Authority. The company has already been fined once by the FSA this year to the tune of £1.1 million for 'poor procedures' when selling payment protection insurance. Last year Norwich Union Life was fined £1.26 million by the Financial Services Authority for procedural failings which meant fraudsters were able to get sensitive information from operators in the banks call centres.

The situation has been compared to a similar incident last year which involved HM Revenue and Customs losing computer disks containing the personal and banking information of 25 million people. In this case however, HSBC has been quick to point out that the missing disc did not contain addresses or bank account details. The disk did contain names, dates of birth and the details of each customer's life insurance policy.

The data on the disc was password protected but it wasn't encrypted. HSBC's explanation of why this was the case, was that usually the information was sent by secure data link so there was no need. "We hold up our hands and say it wasn't good enough," a spokesman told the BBC in an interview, adding "the documents should have been encrypted."

This latest loss of data is just one in a long line of failings by large companies and governmental organisations to keep our details secure. A laptop computer was stolen from a Shropshire medical centre which contained the details of more than 200 children. Four CDs containing personal details from court cases was lost by The Courts Service. Information about nearly 600,000 people went missing when a Royal Navy officer's laptop was stolen from his car in Birmingham and details of 14,000 customer records were lost by Skipton Building society.

It is more important than ever that we keep personal details safe because a new culture of information criminals have taken to selling personal details online. A report by Symantec has recently revealed the new threat to online security. A slew of 'credit card supermarkets' have emerged. Criminals collect credit card numbers and ID information such as names, addresses and dates of birth and sell the details online for as little £5. Government agencies and banks need to be more careful if they don't want our details to fall into the wrong hands.

Loan Officer Career - The Basics of a Successful Loan Officer Profession

With the many career choices that are available it's hard to decide which one is the right career choice for you. However, if you are reading this article, it is because you probably have decided to pursue a loan officer career and are interested in learning all there is to being successful at it.

If the career that you want to learn about is indeed a loan officer career, then keep in mind that there is a lot to learn. By this I simply mean that to be good at anything you have to learn everything there is to know and it's the same with a loan officer career.

Most loan officers will start their learning process by getting their foot in the door at some kind of financial institution by being a teller or a customer service representative. This is a wonderful way to learn a lot about the banking business and how well you will like dealing with people and solving their problems.

By saying that you want a loan officer career, you are actually being very vague because there are so many different levels. You can become a mortgage loan officer, a general loan officer or several other options. Depending on what you are interested in, any one of these loan officer career choices is one that you will be happy with. If you are unsure which you would best be suited there are a number of books available that explain the ins and outs of all of them.

When deciding to have a loan officer career you have probably thought about the income aspects of it all. For some that is the main reason that they chose a career, the payout. Unfortunately though that is all that they look for as reputation and all doesn't matter.

Many loan officers that work really hard at it and make that their main focus in life have been known to make over a hundred thousand dollars a year. But they didn't earn that money by sitting and waiting on business to come to them. They worked at bringing in business and closing loans and finding more to close.

The median income for a person to have a loan officer career is around $44,000 a year with a range of $32,000 - $63,000 the average. There are some companies that will offer a commission instead of a salary whereas others will give some sort of benefits to their loan officers such as free banking services.

The hours that one can expect with a loan officer career are the usual officer hours that any business would have. Again, for those that make it their life to be closing deals to make their company the most it can, well those hours can be a little longer than the usual. Generally, when the bank is open the loan officer is there. That works the best as both the institution and the loan officer can make the most that they can when they're in the office.

Forex Trading Robot - a Free Proven System For Big Long Term Gains

By Kelly Price

Forex trading robots are all the rage and there are many to choose from but most don't work - this one does and best of all its free and has been proven to work and has been the basis of successful many trading systems over the last 30 years...

Let's make a couple of points about this forex trading system before we look at it:

The system we are going to look at is extremely simple. In fact, you can do the calculation in your head and don't even need software but don't be deceived by its simplicity, all the best forex trading systems are simple, as they are more robust, in the brutal real world of forex trading with fewer elements to break than complicated ones.

Also don't be put off by the fact its 30 years old. Sure, we have seen huge advances in currency forecasting in this period but that means nothing in terms of profit, as the same ratio of traders win today as they did 30 or 50 years ago - just 5%

Ok let's look at this forex trading robot.

It was developed by the grandfather of modern trend following Richard Donchian, when he was looking at repetitive cycles in commodity trading and although developed to trade commodity markets, it will work on ANY Trending market.

As currencies trend so well, it is an ideal long term trend following system to use for profit.

Here is the rule of the system and there is only one:

Buy a new 4 week calendar high and go long and go short on a new 4 week low. This is a stop and reverse trading system and maintains a position in the market at all times.

Simple? Sure it is, but this system called the 4 Week Rule (for obvious reasons) is based on sound logic:

1. Its based on currencies will always exhibit a long term trending nature trending for weeks, months or years
2. Its based on a breakout methodology which always works

Test it and you will see how effective it is at catching and holding long term trends. It's not perfect of course (no system is) and when markets don't trend it can get chopped about but you can counter this by using an exit filter. Simply exit on a 1 or 2 week cycle (or short term moving average) and go flat then wait for the next 4 week signal to trigger your trading signal.

This forex trading robot is very robust and works and you can test it and see.

The fact that its successful though doesn't mean many traders will use it even though it makes money and here is why:

1. They dismiss it (wrongly) as to simple work

2. Traders like more complicated systems, with fancy names as it makes them feel safe, although they rarely work

3. Its brutally objective and most traders don't have the discipline to execute in line with the signals

4. Its not fussy about market timing and most traders like to try and predict market tops and bottoms, even though this is not possible.

5. It doesn't trade often so does not please the action trader - but that's not really a problem, as you are only judged on profits with your market timing

6. Its not trendy with a fancy name. Of course this means nothing but traders love systems that sound clever like neural networks or ones based on chaos theory etc even though they don't work!

If you are Interested in Making Money Though!

This system works, will continue to work and in under 30 minutes a day, you could be piling up big profits. Sure, its simple but as we have said don't be deceived. Forget all the systems sold with simulated track records and get a real proven one which savvy traders use and continue to use and you can enjoy currency trading success.

By Mike Selvon

Although most designers are specialized in one particular field, there are others, such as custom homebuilders that have studied different types of designing. Companies that offer design services cater to businesses and/or individuals. And while not absolutely necessary, having some sort of prior experience or training will give you a head start if applying for a job with a design company.

Having a good design very well may be the cornerstone of a company's marketing initiatives. It is used in every aspect of all marketing activities, such as processes, products and packaging. Having a professional design your media will help the businesses to catch the consumer' eye and perhaps it will end in a sale.

The designs that are developed have a great deal of diversity and a good design service company is able to comprehend the needs of clients.

Most businesses start out on a small scale and gradually increase over the years. However, getting your name out there in order to be recognized by consumers is a priority. Automation Software Testing Saves Time and Cost

By Sam Miller

For software companies, automation software testing is a good solution for minimizing operational cost. With automation, companies can save much because they no longer need to hire people to do manual testing. Likewise, this test is seen by software business owners as a way to help its developers save time and energy on doing their jobs, thus, they can be effective.

Test automation pertains to the usage of applications in managing the execution of different testing conducted in a specific software program. A test case is the term used to refer to the tests, which should run the software to check its potential. The intention here is to evaluate the new program by comparison of its actual outcome against the planned output.

You might wonder why there is a need to test software products. For the part of the company, the reason behind conducting several tests is quality assurance. They aim to offer clients the best products considering tight competition in the market today. It is a fact that customers do have a wide selection of which software products to buy these days. Thus, quality is an essential here. Satisfying the need of end users is a good move to get significant market share. It must be noted that with quality products, chances of getting increased sales is within reach as well.

There are many advantages of using automated testing. Among these is being a dependable system. The automated test has been considered one of the most reliable ways to ensure software quality. This kind of testing is being utilized to minimize manual intervention in the process, thus reducing possible mistakes committed by human. In this approach, the tests execute the same procedure in the same exact manner every time they are being conducted. Due to this exact manner, eliminating human mistakes becomes the next thing.

Automated tests are repeatable - another cited by software engineers. These allow them to know how a specific software program responds when the same procedures are being performed repeatedly. Likewise, automated tests are programmable. This means developers can configure complex tests, which can disclose hidden data right from the program itself.

Another benefit of automated testing is its characteristic of being reusable. The tests here can be used on the different varieties that a specific program may have. The nice thing about automated tests is that you no longer have to worry when modifications are done to the user interface, as the tests are reusable.

Several guidelines, however, must be followed in conducting automated tests to be able to maximize all benefits. The most important thing to remember is to make the automated tests simple. It also helps to come up with tests that are self-checking. The tests must produce its results so that no interpretation from human will be needed. Automated tests should be specific. This means that test must be capable of pointing a specific broken functionality for every failure.

To wrap up, automation software testing is a tool that ensures the development of quality products. Companies are able to run several of these tests with reduced resources in lesser time. In effect, reducing the resources used would result to reduced cost, which is very beneficial to any business. Thus, using this kind of testing has become a wise move for companies engaged in software development.
